Irish dance is a lively and captivating form of traditional dance characterized by its rapid foot movements and intricate rhythms, often performed in both solo and group settings. Rooted in Irish cultural heritage, it features unique styles like step dancing and céilí dancing, accompanied by traditional Irish music played on instruments like fiddles and bodhráns. The dancers typically maintain a straight upper body while their feet execute complex patterns, creating a mesmerizing visual experience that celebrates Irish folklore and community spirit.

Catherine is a qualified teacher, adjudicator and examiner of Irish dance with An Coimisuin le Rinci Gaelacha, an elected member of the Udaras, 2018 World Honoree and currently Vice President of An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha.

Catherine began Irish dance at the age of seven, and quickly discovered a passion for it. In 1965, she qualified as a TCRG (teacher) in Dublin, Ireland.

During her career as a dancer, she competed in feiseanna in Australia, Ireland and the USA. Catherine held the title of Australian Champion on two occasions, and was runner-up in the Cross Channel Championships at Feis Maitiu in Dublin.

As an adjudicator, Catherine is closely involved with feiseanna in Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Ireland.

The Cosgriff School hosted its Diamond Jubilee Ball on Saturday Evening December 1st 2018 at ZINC Federation Square. The theme for the Ball was ‘A touch of Purple’ 

The history of the Cosgriff School dates back to 1959, when the school was founded at the Holy Spirit Hall in Thornbury.
